What are digital adapted books?
Digital adapted books are the interactive, no-print edition of the classic special-education adapted book. Instead of laminating pages and sticking Velcro, your student drags the character right into the scene to practice position words, taps sentence strips to hear them read aloud, and answers WH-questions by moving answer cards — with narration, gentle prompts, and celebration built in. They play in any web browser, so they work on an iPad, iPhone, Android tablet, Chromebook, or classroom computer with nothing to install.
Teachers use them for students with autism, in speech therapy sessions, and across special-education classrooms — anywhere a hands-on book works but printing isn't practical: 1:1 device time, centers, teletherapy, or home practice. Every digital book is the companion of a printable adapted book from the same library, so you can run paper for small groups and digital for independent practice.
Made for real special-ed classrooms
Each interactive book keeps the structure teachers love in our printables: a simple, repetitive story that targets position words (over, under, beside, between…), tappable sentence strips read aloud word-by-word, and a WH-question quiz where students drag the correct answer card into the box to complete the sentence.
Wrong answers get a gentle shake and progressively more support — first a glowing target, then a spoken hint — never a buzzer. Correct answers celebrate with sparkles and read the completed sentence aloud to reinforce the language.
📋 Print IEP data at the end of every book
While your student reads, each interactive book quietly tracks the data you'd normally take by hand: independent vs. prompted responses for every position word and WH-question, error counts, and the level of support needed (independent, visual cue, or verbal cue).
On the last page, tap the red Teacher IEP Data button to open the session report — then print it or save it as a PDF. It's formatted to fit a single 8.5×11 sheet, with blank Student and Teacher lines you fill in by hand, ready to drop into your data binder or progress-monitoring notes.

What is an interactive adapted book?

What do I need to play them?
Just a web browser — they're made for iPads and iPhones (touch), and also work with a mouse on any computer. Nothing to install, print, or laminate.
Are interactive books included with membership?
Yes. Every interactive book is included with an AdaptedBooks membership, right alongside its printable version. The Twirly Little Unicorn is free so you can try one first.
Do they replace the printable books?
No — they're companions. Many teachers use the printable for hands-on Velcro work and the interactive edition for 1:1 device time, centers, or home practice.
Can I collect IEP data?
Yes — every interactive book tracks position-word and WH-question responses with prompt levels while your student reads. On the last page, the red Teacher IEP Data button opens a session report formatted to print on one 8.5×11 sheet. It's anonymous: no student name is collected, nothing is stored on our servers, and the data resets with each new session.
