Camping Adapted Book & Activities | The Flashy Little Firefly is a fun, hands-on camping-themed literacy activity for preschool, Pre-K, kindergarten, special education, autism classrooms, and speech therapy. This interactive resource helps students practice camping vocabulary, prepositions, positional concepts, WH questions, basic comprehension, and story sequencing through repeated text, rhyme, and active participation.
This printable set includes an adapted book, story sequencing strips, a hands-on prepositions practice activity, and a cut-and-glue extension activity. As the teacher or therapist reads the story, students move the firefly into the correct position on each page, match optional picture pieces to the book, and answer comprehension questions at the end. It is a great fit for small groups, literacy centers, workstations, and therapy sessions, especially for students who benefit from visual supports, repetition, and hands-on learning.
This download includes:
1 Adapted Book
1 Set of Story Sequencing Strips
1 Hands-On Positions/Prepositions Practice Set
1 Cut And Glue Activity
In this activity, the teacher or therapist reads the story to a small group of students, as students follow along and move the firefly into the correct position on each page. Students can also add a matching piece to each page (included and optional). At the end of the story, students answer "wh" comprehension questions by matching the correct answer piece to each question page.
Students working at an independent level may read through the adapted book and work through questions in a literacy center or independent work station. There are several extension activities included for extra practice. (Please see photos and video for details.)
Sample Text:
"At a dark, dark, camp, near a tall, tall, tree...
a flashy little firefly, was as flashy as can be.
He flashed above a backpack
and he flashed beside a tent.
He flashed beneath a lantern
and sang camp songs as he went!
He flashed between a sleeping bag
and an empty, old canoe...
He flashed under a flashlight
and sang louder as he flew!
(You get the idea!)
