About AdaptedBooks

Making adapted books affordable and accessible for every special education classroom.

What Are Adapted Books?

Adapted books are modified versions of traditional books designed to support learners who benefit from visual supports, simplified text, and hands-on interaction. They may include picture symbols, velcro pieces, sentence strips, or interactive elements that make reading a participatory, multi-sensory experience.

In special education settings, adapted books are used to build communication skills, expand vocabulary, practice foundational literacy concepts, and foster a love of reading — even for students who are not yet reading independently. They're a core instructional tool for students with autism, intellectual disabilities, Down syndrome, language delays, and a range of other learning needs.

Our Mission

Creating high-quality adapted books takes significant time and skill. Many teachers spend hours designing and printing materials — time that could be spent with students. AdaptedBooks exists to change that.

Our mission is simple: make a professionally designed, constantly growing library of adapted books and resources available to every special education educator at a price that makes sense. A single membership gives you unlimited access to everything in the library, so you can spend less time making materials and more time teaching.

Meet the Creator

Natalie, special education teacher and creator of AdaptedBooks
Natalie Special Education Teacher · Creator of AdaptedBooks

Hi, I'm Natalie — the special education teacher behind AdaptedBooks.

My background is in Special Education, and I've worked with students across a wide range of strengths and abilities. I'm currently teaching in a Pre-K/ECSE co-teach classroom, where I create hands-on activities that keep students actively engaged, provide visual structure, adapt easily for differentiation, and give kids plenty of opportunities to practice.

Every adapted book here comes straight from real classroom experience — designed for early learners, students in special education, students with autism, and students receiving speech therapy. They also work beautifully for many preschoolers, young elementary students, and English language learners.

I've always believed learning should be FUN. When students are engaged and enjoying themselves, that's when the real learning happens — and that's the heart of every book I make.

Natalie is also the creator of File Folder Heaven — rated 4.95★ across more than 27,000 reviews from 14,000+ teachers on Teachers Pay Teachers.
