Negation is one of those tricky concepts to teach, so I love having adapted books for every season so that we can revisit it and practice it year round! In “Which Is Not Thanksgiving?”, students look at three Thanksgiving themed real-photo pictures on each page and answer, “Which one is NOT a ______?”, placing a red “not” X under the picture that doesn’t belong. It’s concrete, it’s engaging, and it’s a perfect fit for Thanksgiving language lessons.

Vocabulary includes turkey, mashed potatoes, stuffing, rolls, cranberry sauce, and more.

🎓 Educational Benefits: Targets negation (a key language goal that’s hard to teach concretely), builds Thanksgiving vocabulary, and develops categorization, (same/different), attention to detail, and receptive/expressive language. The real photos support generalization to the real world — especially important for students with autism.

📚 How to Use

  • Read each page and ask “Which one is NOT a ___?”
  • Students mark the picture that doesn’t belong with the red “not” X
  • Great for speech therapy, small groups, and workstations
  • Print, laminate, and add hook-and-loop dots for reuse
