🎯 Skills Targeted:
Prepositions and prepositional phrases (in, down, up, on, etc.), positional concepts, story sequencing, story retell, Wh- Questions, listening comprehension, weather vocabulary (clouds, rain, umbrella, boots, and more), cumulative storytelling structure, predictable text for emergent readers, expressive and receptive language, following directions, and fine motor skills.
Sample Text (Cumulative Structure):
(Page 1) "It was a very cloudy day..."
(Page 2) "It was a very cloudy day. In came the clouds..."
(Page 3) "It was a very cloudy day. In came the clouds. Down came the rain..."
(Page 4) "It was a very cloudy day. In came the clouds. Down came the rain. Up went the umbrella..."
(Page 5) "It was a very cloudy day. In came the clouds. Down came the rain. Up went the umbrella. On went the boots!"
(...and so on — the story builds page by page.)
How to Use:
In a small group, the teacher or therapist reads the story while students follow along and add a picture to each page that completes the prepositional phrase ("In came the clouds," "Down came the rain," etc.). At the end of the story, students answer Wh- Questions with the interactive answer pieces, then sequence the story using the sequencing strips. The 3 extension worksheets reinforce the vocabulary and skills on paper for take-home practice or independent center work.
