Students will use their VISUAL DISCRIMINATION SKILLS with this WINTER THEMED VISUAL DISCRIMINATION SKILLS WORKBOOK. This set is packed full of visual discrimination skills practice and includes lots of winter themed pictures to practice with. This activity works well in morning tubs, centers, and independent work stations. This set is perfect for winter themed units during the winter season. Simply print, laminate and bind into a workbook, and it can be used over and over again.

There are 10 simple visual discrimination tasks included.

These activities can easily be assembled as is (matching mats), into a file folder game, or into a workbook activity as designed. With each set, students will use their visual discrimination skills, to match each winter themed picture to its shape or outline.

How Can These Visual Discrimination Tasks Help Your Students?

  • They Build Visual Attention & Focus:
Children learn to carefully observe details, like curves, angles, and edges.
  • They Strengthen Pre-Reading Skills:
Discriminating between similar shapes prepares students to later distinguish letters and words (e.g., b vs. d).
  • They Support Spatial Awareness:
Matching objects to outlines helps kids understand how parts fit together—a skill used in puzzles, handwriting, and early math.
  • They Encourage Problem-Solving & Reasoning:
Students use visual cues to figure out what fits where, boosting critical thinking.
  • They promotes Independence:
Improves children’s ability to interpret and respond to visual cues in their daily environment (e.g., locating their cubby or matching a picture schedule).
